Sick at Heart

"Love your neighbor." Sounds simple enough
but it's nearly impossible if you doubt yourself.
Harder still when they hate you, even the place
you live and were raised.

They shoot your dreams from under your feet
and make you want to lay down and weep.
Just don't lose the dreams--the life force.
For if you don't have those, you don't have much.

If the wind is too rough, go ahead; touch the ground,
even the largest birds have to come down.
Just please don't stay there forever, because
what good are wings when they are not in use?

Stone and glass are alike
but not in strength or type.
If they're shattered, it's final.
They can't be the same as before.
